4+Bellissima conclusione di questa serie !!!!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 4,5 ⭐。 Non vedevo l'ora di leggere la storia di George, la più originale della famiglia Rutherford, a cui è dedicato l'ultimo volume della serie Convenienza e vero amore di cui ho apprezzato in realtà tutte le storie。 Come mi aspettavo il romanzo è veramente soddisfacente, per me il più bello dei quattro, ma è difficile riuscire ad inquadrarlo senza collocarlo all'interno della intera opera。 Lady Georgiana Rutherford compare già nel primo libro in cui si scopre che è figlia legittima del defunto 4,5 ⭐。 Non vedevo l'ora di leggere la storia di George, la più originale della famiglia Rutherford, a cui è dedicato l'ultimo volume della serie Convenienza e vero amore di cui ho apprezzato in realtà tutte le storie。 Come mi aspettavo il romanzo è veramente soddisfacente, per me il più bello dei quattro, ma è difficile riuscire ad inquadrarlo senza collocarlo all'interno della intera opera。 Lady Georgiana Rutherford compare già nel primo libro in cui si scopre che è figlia legittima del defunto Henry conte di Ashendon che aveva ereditato il titolo da pochi mesi prima di un tragico incidente in cui ha perso la vita。 Quando il capitano Calbourne Rutherford, fratello minore di Henry e protagonista del primo romanzo, ritorna dopo dieci anni di assenza a servizio nei ranghi dell'esercito britannico, non solo scopre di essere diventato Lord Ashendon e che le sorelle Lily e Rose, trascurate dal padre e dal fratello, sono completamente ingestibili, ma anche di avere una nipote cresciuta sola ed abbandonata in condizioni di indigenza e senza regole in una delle tenute di famiglia。 Georgiana viene accolta in casa Rutherford e Cal si assume la responsabilità di educarla, missione che sembra senza speranza, e di introdurla in società insieme alle sorelle di cui è coetanea。 Le tre ragazze stringono una solida amicizia e George si inserisce senza troppe difficoltà nella famiglia ritrovata grazie alla sempre disponibile, sensibile e saggia Emm, moglie di Cal, e alla dolce zia Dottie ma rimane reticente ad accettare le regole sociali che limitano la libertà a cui è stata sempre abituata。 Non può rinunciare ad indossare i pantaloni sotto le gonne, a dire sempre e comunque ciò che pensa, al suo fedele cane Finn e al bellissimo cavallo Sultan che cavalca come un uomo o forse meglio。 È una giovane schietta, pratica, ribelle, generosa e saggia。 Mentre Lily e Rose seppur in modo originale e travagliato nei due successivi romanzi si sposano e trovano l'amore, George si proclama assolutamente contraria al matrimonio。 Non solo le verrebbero tarpate le ali ma non riesce a concepire di potersi fidare degli uomini visto il pessimo termine di paragone che rappresentano suo padre e suo nonno。 Date queste premesse mi chiedevo come l'autrice potesse costruire una storia d'amore convincente per Georgiana senza snaturarne il carattere forte e ben delineato。 E devo dire che c'è riuscita con tanta maestria grazie all'introduzione di una controparte maschile altrettanto interessante e particolare e ad una trama molto realistica che sfrutta i punti di forza del carattere dei due personaggi evitando i cliché romantici più prevedibili。 Redmond Jasper Hartley, quinto Duca di Everingham compare sin dal secondo volume。 È il figlioccio della zia Agatha, burbera sorella di Dottie, molto rispettata e temuta in società, che si è prefissata di combinare i migliori matrimoni possibili per le tre scellerate nipoti。 Agatha è anche la migliore amica della duchessa vedova di Everingham, madre di Hart, come viene chiamato amichevolmente il Duca, donna subdola e manipolatrice。 Riesce quasi nell'intento di far sposare Rose con il Duca nel terzo volume, se non tornasse in modo del tutto inaspettato il primo marito della giovane, creduto morto in guerra, sposato in segreto, proprio durante il matrimonio。 Lo scandalo che ne consegue pur indisponendo Hart non lo scompone più di tanto。 Egli è noto per essere una persona sfuggente, supponente, distaccata, in realtà è un ragazzo schivo, introverso, riservato che nasconde dietro la sua apparente arroganza una mente aperta e un cuore generoso。 Ha deciso che è ora di convolare a nozze per generare il tanto decantato erede per il ducato ed è sua intenzione trovare una sposa che una volta assolto il dovere procreativo viva una vita totalmente indipendente alla sua, senza alcun tipo di legame affettivo o sentimentale。 Vista la continua insistenza di Lady Agatha ad avvicinarlo alla famiglia Rutherford, mette gli occhi su George la cui fama di donna indipendente e ribelle potrebbe garantirgli il tipo di rapporto distaccato che cerca。 George si rivela una preda difficile da conquistare e anche quando viene costretta ad un matrimonio di convenienza, dopo essere stati sorpresi in una situazione compromettente, farà di tutto per ribellarsi alle regole del ton。 Quello che nessuno dei due si aspetta è la loro profonda affinità che li porta a rivedere le rispettive convinzioni sul matrimonio e sull'amore。 La storia d'amore tra Georgiana e Hart è una lenta conquista, si dipana tra le pagine senza fretta, rispettando i tempi narrativi che la rendono realistica anche se la parte finale mi è sembrata affrettata, manca la fase della condivisione familiare di questo sentimento totalmente inaspettato。 Mi sarebbe piaciuto che venissero approfondite le reazioni degli altri personaggi al cambiamento del rapporto tra i due protagonisti。 Ogni capitolo dei romanzi della serie si apre con una citazione letteraria che generalmente leggo di sfuggita soprattutto se non conosco l'opera da cui sono tratte。 In questo quarto volume invece le ho veramente apprezzate, non solo perché sono prese dai romanzi di Jane Austen ma soprattutto perché le ho travate squisitamente evocative, predittive ed estremamente calzanti。Sono rimasta conquistata dallo stile chiaro ed efficace di questa autrice che non conoscevo anche se ogni tanto c'è qualche sbavatura formale che stona, forse dovuta alle difficoltà di traduzione。 。。。more

I love this author but。。。 So sad to see George, a truly great character, get thrown away to make plotting easier。 🥲。 George would never climb a man she didn’t like because she ‘got carried away’, nor would she be so easily manipulated。 DNF

Three stars for making it to half way thru the story。 I feel like by the time they got married, they already loved each other, so my interest started to die out as it felt that the blossoming romance was over and done。 I also never warmed up to either character。, especially the heroine。 Much too much of a tomboy for me。

Lovely romanceThis is a lovely romance with better than average characters who I cared about。 This is the 4th book in the series and George is the most modern and easy to root for。 This was a delightful read and I spent a few happy hours enjoying the fantasy。

I thought it was a good book。 The ending could have encompassed more of the sub characters and rounding out everyone’s stories。 Overall a good ending to the series。

Loved This Series I loved the story of Liz, Rose, and George。 But this last story made my heart sing because it gave us an extra love story Aunt Dottie。 It was Awesome。

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。This year, I challenged myself to finish at least 5 series out of the many unfinished series that I've lost track of。 I read the Marriage of Convenience series in order as each book was published。 And as much as I like Anne Gracie's writing, I'm not a fan of this series。 But I figured I might as well finish it off since I had an ARC from last year。 Marry in Scarlet is the final book in the series, but it can be read as a standalon I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。This year, I challenged myself to finish at least 5 series out of the many unfinished series that I've lost track of。 I read the Marriage of Convenience series in order as each book was published。 And as much as I like Anne Gracie's writing, I'm not a fan of this series。 But I figured I might as well finish it off since I had an ARC from last year。 Marry in Scarlet is the final book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone。 I ended up listening to the audiobook and I surprisingly liked the narration。 Rosalyn Landor is still the superior historical romance audiobook narrator though。 Lady Georgiana Rutherford AKA Lady George has no interest in marriage, even though her great aunt keeps pushing her toward Hart, the icy Duke of Everingham。 George cannot stand Hart because he is proud and icy。 As for Hart, he is unexpectedly drawn to the unconventional George。 So we have an icy, proud, and stuffy hero paired with an unconventional and independent tomboy-ish heroine。 Their dynamic is a lot of fun and kind of remind me Pride and Prejudice。 I surprisingly enjoyed George as a heroine。 I typically have an issue with the way historical romance authors write independent heroines in historical romance。 But Anne Gracie did a great job writing George as an independent heroine who actually fit in the Regency time period。 Furthermore, I really enjoyed it when George puts Hart in his place and calls him our on his manipulative tactics。 Keep in mind that this is less of a marriage of convenience and more of a married in scandal type of romance because George and Hart get caught in a compromising position。 The actual wedding doesn't take place until the 75% mark LOL。 I was personally not surprised because the first book in this series follows the same pattern。 That being said, I still wanted George and Hart to get married earlier on。 Another thing I did not like was the small focus on George's Aunt Dottie, whose story I couldn't care less about。 Lastly, I did not like that the plot takes a left turn in the last 15% of the story。 Anne Gracie pulls a Random-Children trope à la Lisa Kleypas at the very end and this is not a compliment lol。 Lisa Kleypas has pulled this surprise trope in many of her books before and it always irritates me。 Unless the kids are heavily involved in the story from the beginning, unless it's made clear that they will consistently be a part of the story, I don't like random kids showing up out of nowhere and taking over the plot。 Hart's ward was briefly mentioned in the beginning, but why only make him an important part of the story in the last 15% of the story? It was all so annoying。Overall, I did enjoy the romance and the dynamic between Hart and George。 But I was not a fan of the plot and the pacing。 The epilogue was cute though and it was a great conclusion to the series。 。。。more

Good but my least favourite of the series。 I liked the h's honesty, that the H listened to her and the slow building of their relationship。 But the last few chapters felt like someone else was writing, it ws clunky and just wrong。 I expected his ward would come into play but it seemed overwrought。 Her speech was out of character, she's lost her sass, he lost his charisma, they were 'unfinished'? The series is wonderful but I struggled to give this 4 stars。 Good but my least favourite of the series。 I liked the h's honesty, that the H listened to her and the slow building of their relationship。 But the last few chapters felt like someone else was writing, it ws clunky and just wrong。 I expected his ward would come into play but it seemed overwrought。 Her speech was out of character, she's lost her sass, he lost his charisma, they were 'unfinished'? The hoyden heroine, Georgiana who goes by "George" and scandalously wears pants to ride astride leaves something to be desired in social graces when transferred from her rural upbringing to the aristocratic scene in 19th century London。 She is celebrated by her late-found but overly doting family for being "frank" but it really translates into being rude。 She can't seem to summon subtlety or wit in her put-downs of anyone who displeases her (and there are many) and is just abrasive。 She's also n The hoyden heroine, Georgiana who goes by "George" and scandalously wears pants to ride astride leaves something to be desired in social graces when transferred from her rural upbringing to the aristocratic scene in 19th century London。 She is celebrated by her late-found but overly doting family for being "frank" but it really translates into being rude。 She can't seem to summon subtlety or wit in her put-downs of anyone who displeases her (and there are many) and is just abrasive。 She's also not above getting physical, cracking her fan on an opera-goer she deems not respectful enough of the performance, plotting to douse an over-persistent suitor with garden manure, willing to kick men in their privates, barely stopped from slapping a malicious woman at a ball。 Inexplicably, this aggressive attitude attracts a top-lofty wealthy Duke。 Sure Hart is tired of obsequious toadies and feminine machinations but is there really no middle ground between that and being mannerless? Not duchess material at all as George herself was the first to admit。However, the Duke IS attracted, mistakenly thinking she can be "managed" to his liking and she in turn becomes sexually attracted when he kisses her - to the point of forgetting herself in a public venue and "climbing him like a tree" with her bared thighs clamped around his waist to be spotted by witnesses and constrained into a betrothal he wanted and she did not。 Get used to that distasteful description "climbing him ____ _ ____" that calls up simian behavior as it's over-used by the author with an indulgent editor。 Bet you didn't like seeing it even a second time here。 In the second half of the story, George undergoes a metamorphosis, starting when Hart releases her from the betrothal after realizing she had agreed only because his manipulative mother presented it as her deathbed wish。 George goes through with the wedding wearing a scandalous red dress that was a big "up yours" to guests who had subjected her to social sniping about "trapping" the Duke。 Hart supported her in this rebellion and her purposeful mangling of the wedding vow to "I promise to rub, cherish and olè" so she could avoid a dishonest declaration that she would love and obey and rewarded her with heirloom rubies。 Unsurprisingly, she did grow to love Hart who reciprocated though "obey" was obviously never going to happen。 There's a rather lame tacking on of two young boys in distress near the end that cuts a big swathe through the honeymoon and dilutes the romance and the epilogue presents George as a kind of super-Duchess/Earth Mother, loving children, animals and her besotted husband。 This type of heroine whose rather childish rude behavior is excused by over-indulgent relatives and is catnip to an aristocratic hero is a personal turn off for me。 If surrounding characters commented that George matured, that Hart had been a good influence that would be one thing but everyone acted as though her behavior had been praise-worthy all along。 "Frankness" is over-rated when it's not used with discrimination and grown women who go around claiming they want to hit people are not charming。 。。。more

This was my favorite of the series。 It did lose a star for being too long, but it was beautiful and it even made me tear up a little in the end。 I’m still waiting on Aunt Agatha to learn a lesson though。

Marry in Scarlet has some pacing weirdness, an unnecessary last-minute (view spoiler)[child kidnapping (hide spoiler)] subplot, and an overly saccharine epilogue。。。but it still worked for me。 There isn't anything really new going on here, but for the most part, it's well executed。 There's a really great scene in which the heroine confronts the insufferable hero on his manipulative behavior and lack of consideration for others, leading him to reexamine his actions。 It's the turning point in their Marry in Scarlet has some pacing weirdness, an unnecessary last-minute (view spoiler)[child kidnapping (hide spoiler)] subplot, and an overly saccharine epilogue。。。but it still worked for me。 There isn't anything really new going on here, but for the most part, it's well executed。 There's a really great scene in which the heroine confronts the insufferable hero on his manipulative behavior and lack of consideration for others, leading him to reexamine his actions。 It's the turning point in their relationship and the reason for my 4-star rating。 。。。more

Lady Georgiana Rutherford never much cared for her sister Rose's fiancee, the dour Duke of Everingham, so when he gets dumped at the alter she's not mad about it。 Except then he keeps showing up and she is conflicted: she doesn't like that she likes it but she doesn't like him。 Or something。 Feelings。 Anyways, the Duke (who's full name is like Redmond Jasper Hartley) decides that the tenacious, outspoken George is the only women who'll do for him and his burning loins, so he traps her! And then untraps her, and then she declines and stuff。 Finally, MARRIAGE, LOVE, BONERS, RANDOM KINDNAPPINGS, ETC。 1。 This was fine。 Serviceable, even。 It was a romance novel with a plot and emotions and some sex。 Check; check; check。 2。 That said: what a ridiculously uneven plot。 The general foundation-laying was decent enough and then Gracie, likely not wanting to throw an emotional wrench between her lovebirds, instead throws in a missing ward plot that dips a toe into considering pedophiles, outright nods at the murder of a seven-year-old child, and ends with one big happy family。 This plot also overlaps with the requisite sexing mentioned above, for added flavor? I don't fucking know。Absolutely ridiculous。 3。 Also, this needed another edit。 At one point George falls asleep, I believe in a carriage, and Hart just keeps fucking piling rugs on her so she doesn't die of a chill or something。 (It's really only two rugs and it's clear it's just a copy-editing oversight。 BUT READER I LAUGHED。)4。 George was a much better developed character than Hart; near the end of the book his point of view just drops off, leaving his (assumed to be) developing feelings a mystery。 I mean, they're not much of a mystery because boners, but you know what I mean。 5。 Y'know, for allegedly loving guardians, Emm and Cal let Aunt Agatha say some nasty-ass shit to George without stepping in。 Yike。6。 I don't know。 I'm glad I finished the series, but it's obvious that this needed a bit more baking to come together。 。。。more

Such a disappointment。 I was so excited for George and her icy duke and then。。。this。 One of the joys of marriage of conveniences is watch people learn each other and fall in love。 And the delicate dance of being married to someone and not knowing if your love is allowed or welcome and trying to prove it somehow。You don't really get that here。 The wedding doesn't take place until about 75% in。 The previous books in the series average around 50% for the wedding so this feels entirely excessive。 An Such a disappointment。 I was so excited for George and her icy duke and then。。。this。 One of the joys of marriage of conveniences is watch people learn each other and fall in love。 And the delicate dance of being married to someone and not knowing if your love is allowed or welcome and trying to prove it somehow。You don't really get that here。 The wedding doesn't take place until about 75% in。 The previous books in the series average around 50% for the wedding so this feels entirely excessive。 And while Gracie's a good writer and the story is interesting enough, that 75% is mostly George dealing with her own feelings on marriage and attraction。 The duke is used sparingly and frankly doesn't have much of a personality。 I would have loved to instead have him falling for her, possibly with some pining, but you don't get that。 Then the last bit of the book is a really out-there subplot involving characters we have barely heard of and it just。。。takes the book in a whole different direction。Anyway, it's a fine book, probably a 3 star book, but when you are really hoping for this to be the best in the series and it comes in weak, it's bound to disappoint。 。。。more
